Mr. Richard A. Deemter, age 70, of Hudsonville, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at Lacks Cancer Center. Rich was born March 5, 1937 in Merritt, MI to John and Helen (Westveer) Deemter. He worked in the building trades in the Grand Rapids area for all of his working life, retiring at 62 to a part time job which he considered the best in his life. Rich enjoyed hunting, spending time with his buddies (you know who you are), and shooting skeet and trap at the Southkent gun range. He was a "party instigator" and chaperone "extraordinaire". His pig roasts were "special" and he could make a venison lover out of most doubters. In his younger years he knew where the best pool tables in town were located and still enjoyed a game of pool, most recently at nephew, Mark's. Rich never met a stranger and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. Rich was preceded in death by his son, Craig Richard in 1988 and his brother, Francis (Fritz) in 1994, both of whom he missed very much. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Pat (Hoogeveen) Deemter; children, Jon Kevin of Allegan, and Carla Joy of Holland; sister, Genevieve (Peter) VanHaitsma of Falmouth; sisters-in-law, Peggy Deemter of Jenison, Phyllis Hoogeveen of Orange Park, FL, Lavina (Daisy) Hoogeveen of Grandville, Esther Timmer of Sparta, Marilyn (David) Ebels of Hudsonville; brother-in-law, John C. (Carol) Hoogeveen of Allegan; his cousins; and his nieces and nephews and their friends, especially up at the cabin, who also knew and loved him as "Uncle Rich". Honoring Rich's request, cremation has take place and there will be a gathering to celebrate his life Saturday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Patmos Library Meeting Room, 2445 Riley St., Jamestown. Interment will be at Jamestown Township Cemetery. His family expresses a heartfelt thanks to all of those who cared for Rich at the Lacks Cancer Center. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Southkent Sportsmans Club Property Purchase Fund, P.O. Box 206, Dorr, MI, 49323-0206. Cook Funeral and Cremation Services
